Major Crimes 5.14
Enjoyable case-of-the-week with terrific guest cast. Especially Camryn Manheim, who was amazing.
- Manheim‘s character is so nasty I was virtually booing at the screen during her scenes. I hope she sticks around for a while, as this is someone we could love to hate for a long time.
- And it’s a great way to shake up a long-running show, bring someone in who causes problems for the characters we love.

Robert Guillaume is fantastic in this episode.
- There are two scenes where he excels.
- First, a funny one. To throw a nosy cop off Dutch’s scent, Jessica and Benson pretend to be a married couple vacationing in a remote cabin. Guillaume is simply hilarious.
- Second, a serious scene. Jessica receives word that her husband is dead. Katherine Helmond dominates the scene, of course, but it’s just a joy to watch Guillaume right there with her – beat for beat – playing it perfectly straight. Such talent. From both of them.

St. Elsewhere 1.4
There are some stories the show told that stay with you forever. The story of Cora and Arnie is one such tale.
- Doris Roberts won a well-deserved Emmy for her performance here.
- Cora and Arnie, a homeless couple, get most of the screentime in this episode. She’s seriously ill and he doesn’t understand much of anything that’s going on. All of their scenes together are heartbreaking to watch, but the ending of the story is hauntingly sad.
- While this story plays out, we watch another married couple going from doctor to doctor to doctor, getting test after test after test. And the bill is increasing each time. Clever.
- Fiscus continues to fall more and more for Cathy Martin. Great casting in this quirky love story.

Kim Ulrich. Simple story with good characters and a great twist that comes out of nowhere. Dawnn Lewis is superb. 10/10
